I have an electrical room with a 480/277 volt busway in an electrical room on a floor in a high rise office building.
The bus way feeds a 400 amp 480/277 volt panel for lighting and mechanical loads as well the busway feeds a 400 amp 208/120 volt panel through a 112.5 kva transformer.
The bus way is located in the electrical room so that it has the code required clearances in front of it with the bus way disconnects installed.
With the change in NEC Article 110.26(C)(2), will the fact that the bus way is rated 1200 amps or larger now require that I have double the working clearance in front of the bus way and associated disconnects?

Re: NEC Article 110.26(C)(2)

110.26(C)(2) Is dealing with the entrance to the working space for equipment rated 1200 amperes or more. This requires an entrance at each end of the working space.

Part b of 110.26(C)(2) talks about if you have double the required working space, then you are allowed to have 1 entrance to the working space.

How many doors are there in the electrical room?

You never have to change a facility, just because the code changed. If you were to install this busway and other equipment today, and if you were under the 2005 code, then you would have to have two entrances or have double the working clearance.

Re: NEC Article 110.26(C)(2)

Code changes are generally not retroactive, so if your electrical room is an existing installation, you should not be required to make any changes. If it did not meet the code at the time of the installation , that is a different animal alltogether.

Re: NEC Article 110.26(C)(2)

Sorry that I did not clarify, the situation that I described is existing, and I understand that I would not required to retrofit an existing electrical room.
My real question was intended to determine if I would be required to have double the working clearance, or have two doors in a new installation with the same equipment?
