I am currently working on a design for a retail store with an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) and Boat service area. This area will also be used to temporarily store some ATV's and boats. Due to the fuel that may be contained in some of these vehicles, I am under the assumption that this area should be classified as a Class I Div 2. According to the Mike Holt's Article "Understanding the 2002 NEC, Part 2" in regards to Article 511, it states, "...Article 511 does not apply to ... repair garages for watercraft, 4-wheelers or motorcycles." My question is, on what code and criteria is this exception based?
