I see that my question goes back not one but two code cycles, but what ever became of Article 80, "Administration and Enforcement"? How is very important information now addressed?

thanks,

Mike

Most jurisdictions already had these rules (or similar rules in effect) and had to specifically exempt them to avoid conflicting rules when they were in article 80. They were moved to the annex where those jurisdictions that want to may adopt them but the majority may just ignore them as they are in the annex and not binding.

Article 80 was never enforceable unless specifically adopted. As Annex G, it still isn't.

See italic note before 80.1 and 80.5 (2002)

Mike, if the job is in MA forget Article 80, we have "Rules 1 through 10" in addition to our local amendments.

If you look at the MA amendments you will find Rules 1 through 10 ahead of the MEC amendments.

Keep in mind that nothing in the NEC is 'binding' until it's chosen by the local or state authority, and parts may be adopted, modified, or omitted.

Larry that is of course true, but Article 80 even more so.

An area can adopt the NEC with out any changes or amendments and Article 80 is left behind, the Area has to adopt the NEC and Adopt 80.

It's just a bit of a stand out from the other Articles. :)
