NEC Article 800

I work for a developer and we own a self storage facility. I am having a dispute with a security company about NEC codes applying to their work. We have cameras DVR's and monitors as part of the system We are having to replace monitors and dvr's due to a lightning strike in the area. I feel they should have had some protection on their equipment where the cables entered the building. The two buildings are greater then 140' apart and the equipment is owned by the Security company. I feel they should have provided protection for their equipment as they own it. They state in their contract that they are not responsible for lightning strikes but that they also must follow all applicable codes.
Question is does NEC article 800 apply to this contractor? Thanks for you help.

NEC articles apply to the installation, not to the installer. They impact the installer only in the sense that the installer must follow the rules, in order to assure that the installation meets code.

But as to whether we can answer your specific question, we would need to know more about the situation. And before I can even tell you what more information I think I would need, I am compelled to inform you of a limitation with regard to the use of this forum. Our rules explicitly forbid us to provide any information whatsoever, if the information is intended to be used to support one party or another in a legal dispute. So if you are trying to find an article in the NEC that would make it clear that the other party is responsible for paying for the damaged equipment, then we are not allowed to help you. It is a liability concern, and it is the instructions we received from the forum owner.

Article 800 - NO, Article 820 - YES.

See Part III and Part IV of Article 820.

Did the contractor pull a permit for the installations made?

Would 820 apply to a CCTV system? The scope eludes to CATV only.
