Where can I find the code that states that wire size #6 and smaller must be factory color coated brown orange yellow gray for 277/480 and black red blue white for 120/208?

Don't think you can find one.
There is an industry practice which involves the color codes.
Not an NEC ruling.
I have found these color codes listed in books as a reference, not as a code.

The only one I have ever found has to do with a high-leg marker as orange.

There is a reference to the switch-loop / switch-leg, but does not apply here.

You will not find it.
210.5 Identification for Branch Circuits.

(C) Ungrounded Conductors.
Where the premises wiring system has branch circuits supplied from more than one nominal voltage system, each ungrounded conductor of a branch circuit shall be identified by phase or line and system at all termination, connection, and splice points. The means of identification shall be permitted to be by separate color coding, marking tape, tagging, or other approved means. The method utilized for conductors originating within each branch-circuit panelboard or similar branchcircuit distribution equipment shall be documented in a manner that is readily available or shall be permanently posted at each branch-circuit panelboard or similar branchcircuit distribution equipment.

215.12 Identification for Feeders.

(C) Ungrounded Conductors.
Where the premises wiring system has feeders supplied from more than one nominal voltage system, each ungrounded conductor of a feeder shall be identified by phase or line and system at all termination, connection, and splice points. The means of identification shall be permitted to be by separate color coding, marking tape, tagging, or other approved means. The method utilized for conductors originating within each feeder panelboard or similar feeder distribution equipment shall be documented in a manner that is readily available or shall be permanently posted at each feeder panelboard or similar feeder distribution equipment.

Bob, correct me if I'm wrong but the neutral and ground must be white/green in color the entire length and the phase conductors can be marked with color tape at the panel boards or sub panels where they terminate.

Let's not forget that the Orange marking is just one option....the code also allows additional markings as well for the highleg depending on your AHJ acceptance.

You are correct.

Check out 200.6 for grounded conductors and 250.119 for equipment grounding conductors.

By the way Boodler, Welcome to the forum.:)

You can find it. You just need to know where to look. There actually is an NEC color-coding requirement for ungrounded conductors.

But it was in the NEC from 1937 through 1975. It was removed in 1978.
