I have a Homeline 200 amp Outdoor Main Breaker/Emergency Disconnect panel with Feed-Thru lugs (#HOM816M200PFTRB) installed below the meter. The intent when I originally installed it was to run the house off this 200 Feed-Thru.
I installed ‘Slippery Rock’ 350-350-350-4/0 direct burial main feeder line from this main disconnect box to the subpanel in the house. This was the required gauge needed to go the distance.
The unanticipated problem I now have is that the 2 main bus bar lugs and the neutral bus bar lug have a maximum capacity of a 250 MCM conductor.
I’ve looked through my NEC code book for the code compliant answer. In studying Schneider’s website, I am told that Homeline and QO load centers are not designed to be altered, to be field replaceable. Therefore I can not upgrade the lugs to a size that will accommodate the 350 MCM. Is that correct?
Questions/Comments:
1) I’d like to upgrade the lugs to accommodate 350 MCM. Does anyone know if it can be done?
2) If that doesn’t work, is it really NEC code compliant to use a MAC-ADAPT or a Polaris Connector or a Ilsco device or a splice connector or a pin adapter with a stranded copper pin? Or something else?
3) Please help me find reference to the correct solution in the NEC code.
Thanks!
