Hello,
I would like to ask if there are any NEC Codes or IEEE Standards for bonding a shield on a 120 VAC power circuit from a power panel through raceway/cable tray to a control panel?

I take it the shield isn't needed? or are you asking if the control panel needs to be bonded with the shield?

  • What purpose the shield on a 120VAC power wire serves?
  • What kind of shield?
  • If it is a metallic 'shield' that can become energized due to insulation failure on the wires within, then it is indeed need to be bonded.

It is a braided shield and it is not needed, but we were given this cable to use and just wanted to know whether to bond the shield at one end, both ends or not at all.
And is there some code or standard reference to that effect

Well if it is possible for the wire to get energized in the cable due to a fault then I believe it needs to be connected to clear any faults. IMO, one end is all that is necessary to bond it.
