This bit of information comes from a fresh copy of the IAEI magazine:

1959 began the change from a receptacle every 12' of wall space in the 1956 edition (which was a change from 1953 that used the 20' rule) to ....."installed so that no point along the floor line is more than 6', measured horizontally.......? Which is the same today.

Receptacles installed at the kitchen sink location had to be of the grounding type.

Small appliance circuits were increased to 2 which included the laundry.

Thought this would be nice to share.

That is interesting. I do allot of kitchens and many are in houses of 1950s -'60s vintage. I always find the washing machine receptacle in the basement fed with the kitchen circuit.

The change actually took place in the 1956 NEC. 2124.b for those of you who want to look it up.
