Does anyone have knowledge of the evolvement of 250.122(B)?
I do... but my human condition is not permitting me to recall precise details at this time. Anyway, as I recall, it first started back in the mid 70's about upsizing the EGC where a wire-type was required to be run (such as with a circuit in non-metallic raceway) and the ungrounded conductors were increased in size to counter the effect of voltage drop. Then around the mid 90's, I believe the 1996 code was first, the stipend the wire-type EGC be required was dropped to any instance of a wire-type EGC. Then around 2002 Code I believe, it changed to any reason for upsizing the ungrounded conductors.
