Can some one steer me in the direction on how to go about getting a formal or informal interpretation of a particular code section? I would like to do it through email so I can include the contractor in on the correspondences.

All questions or other communications relating to NFPA Documents and all requests for information on NFPA
procedures governing its codes and standards development process, including information on the procedures for
requesting Formal Interpretations, for proposing Tentative Interim Amendments, and for proposing revisions to

Formal Interpretations are not issued very often.

If you are looking for an informal interpretation you could always talk to a member of the code making panel that covers the section you are interested in.

What code section are you inquiring about?

Note that if you request a formal interpretation, it takes some time to get an answer...often 6 months or so. Also the question must be formatted so it can be answered with yes or no.

Which has the same value as an opinion posted on this forum. Short of an FI, the only opinion that really counts is that of the AHJ.
