What type of wire should be used for irrigation systems in public park systems with multiple solenoid stations? We have contract specs requiring UF type 14 AWG copper, but, in practice, contractors have been using individual 14 wires. After installation, we meghohm the wire and usually do not achieve the 50 meg reading specified in the contract docs. We have been using a minimum of 5 megs as practical for a 24 volt system, and wonder why the higher reading of 50 megs is specified in the docs?
