NEC Question for Hanging Window Sign ...

I am a sign engineer and new to the site. I'll try to make this quick. I have a large customer looking to install a number of (a few hundred) hanging (jackchain) window signs at their stores. They do not want the signs supplied w/ a three prong cord like we normally would. They are trying to prevent installing receptacles flush w/ the ceiling for the cord sets. They feel they are unsightly w/ the cord set and receptacle visible. I looked through my 2008 NEC code book and could not find the answer i was looking for so i'm hoping someone can help.

My question is ...

The customer would like the signs to be hardwired above the ceiling. Is it legal to have flexible conduit exiting the top of the sign and then zip tying it to the jackchain and running it through the ceiling. I have a plastic sleeving that will snap over both the jackchian and flex. I'm sure i will run into both hard ceilings and suspend ceilings in the field, so would the same hold for both. I will also have a disconnect toggle switch at the top of the sign as well. If anyone could direct me to what article would address this in the code book, i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the help and looking forward to future postings!

As long as the signs are listed to be fed by hard wiring this should not be a problem but if they come listed with a cord there maybe a problem. Art,110.3 Installed as listed & labeled.
Art,400.8(5) - Cords are not to run above a suspended ceiling.

I would agree with this and also with jumper about the mc cable.
