I work for a company that manufactures Industrial blowers.
We have a customer in Ohio that is having difficulty getting the local inspector to sign off on an instillation.
The inspector insists that the NEC requires that the blower have UL recognition while we (as well as all our competitors) merely use motors that are UL recognized. Can anyone point out the clause in the NEC or the OBC that requires an industrial blower to have UL or any other third party recognition in order to be considered properly installed?

The NEC wouldn't require this to be listed however, there may be a local or state code that does.

The NEC has a few things to say about motors. But the NEC does not address the mechanical components that are driven by the motors. I know of very few statements in the NEC that require an item to be UL listed. I suggest that you get your customer to ask the inspector for the code article being used to fail the installation. There won't be one.

110.2 requires that the equipment be "approved" that is "acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction". In many areas they will look for a listing before they will approve any type of equipment and this method of approval is listed in the FPN the follows 110.3(A)(1).
