Hello,

i am having trouble understanding note 2 for table 312.6 (B). I don’t understand what it means by lay-in wire terminals intended for only one wire. Can someone elaborate this to me as I frankly can’t.

Notes 2:
for removable and lay-in wire terminals intended for only one wire, bending space shall be permitted to be reduced by the following number of mm (inches).

It's a terminal that has the side either open or a portion of the terminal that is removable so that the conductor can be bent and laid into the terminal as opposed to pushing it into a closed terminal from the end of the terminal. Bonding bushings often have lay-in style terminals, some meter enclosures have lay-in style terminals where the fastening device can be removed.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

A surface-mount range or dryer receptacle has lay-in terminals, too, where the plate with the screw swings out of the way.
