California is still testing on 1999 NEC Code. It is still not clear as to when they will be changing that to the 2002. You can verify this with the Electrical Board that you will be testing with. Please feel free to contact me here at the office with any additional questions or concerns. 1-800-881-2580

When I tested for my C-10 (EC license) in CA in 1977 the State was on the '71 book and my test was based on the '65 book. Now the JW test is out of the '99 book and the State is almost in the '05; the C-10 is out of the '99 and some of the '02. That's what I like.....consistancy.

I'm afraid you have some outdated info.
California is currently giving applicants their choice between the 1999 and the 2002.
As of July 1, testing will be exclusive on the 2002.

As for the state going on the 2005 (2007 CEC) that is tentatively scheduled for Jan 1st. It depends on when they finally publish the new Code. Enforcement begins 6 months after publication.

It should be also noted that certification (worker licensing), and building code determination are done by separate and equally bureaucratic agencies. The DAS, and BSA respectively. One is nearly a whole code cycle behind in their test material, and the other is prepping to debut the 2007 code in 2008.... (The last time they did that they postponed to the next code cycle - it's early, they just might. With them, 'when' is 'if'...) That said if the code changes again, the DAS might never catch up - as they have no $%&%*!$ idea what is going on in the real world anyway! They operate from small criminally corrupt or blatenly ignorant bubble, in a small pond - with no fish. (Dont ask me to tell you how I really feel...)
