Is it permitted to run any type of wire in a down draft duct for a island cooktop. For a remote location blower.

You need to take a look at 300.22, this is not a yes or no question.

You should read it yourself and maybe talk to the inspector.

I agree with I wire as 300.22 (A)This would be a AHJ call as it would depend on what he could call commercial-type cooking equipment.

A) Ducts for Dust, Loose Stock, or Vapor Removal. No wiring systems of any type shall be installed in ducts used for ventilation of commercial-type cooking equipment.
