1.A motor contrler is installed in a Class II, Division 1 hazardous location and the enclosure for the controller is rated NEMA 9, dust-ignition-proof. A horizontial run of ridgid metal conduit supplies power to the controller from a junction box that contains only conductor splices and the box is designed to prevent the entrance of dust, but does not have dust-igniion-proof rating.Both the junction box and controller have threaded hubs, and both are in ClassI, Division 1 area. This installation is permitted provided the horizontial run of conduit between box and controller is not less than?

(a)18 in.
(b)3 ft.
(c)5 ft.
(d)10 ft.
(e)12 ft.

This has to be a homework or test question. Give us your work and we will help you with the answer. We are not going to do the work for you.

I am also interested in knowing why you posted here instead of under Exam Preparation? :confused:

I agree with Charlie.

Also, there are inconsistencies in the question. In the first line of the question , the controller is in a Class II, Div 1 location.
Farther along, it is said to be in a Class I, Div 1 location.

A good place to start is opening the code book.
There is no easy way to learn without some effort into looking it up this will get you familiarize with the code book and allow for when you get those off the wall questions to be able to look them up an answer quickly. with out this ability you will fail most test. as you dont always get what's on a prep sheat.

Yes it is an exam question. I apolagize for posting in nec. The question is on an master continuing education exam. You guys did answer my question, I also think the question is worded incorrectly. Just thought it would be nice to have a second opinion,and again thank you.
