I was wondering if there is any documents on restriction on someone taking the electrial test if they have red green color blindness. Is there any thing that other electrians do to help with this issue.

I would expect that such a restriction would be a violation of the ADA rules.

I know that in Utah there is no restriction for someone who is color blind from taking the journeyman's or master's exams.

(I should know I am partially color blind)

Certainly no governing agency would dare discriminate in this fashion these days.

If I may ask tactfully, if you're ask out of your own limitation do you have trouble distinguishing wire colors?

Who cares what the color of a conductor is, only a meter will tell what type of a conductor it is.

Seriously? The code certainly cares... Imagine the joy of terminating if all the conductors were the same color?

If I relied on the color of a conductor as identification, I would be dead.

Ok I won't argue that you need colors.

I personally appreciate them, especially when I'm terminating in an MCC or simply wiring up receptacle after receptacle fed with NM. I would hate to have to ohm out every wire I terminate. My own weakness I guess.

No it is someone that works for me and told me that he has isssue with red and green colors.

Job security. There was a ~1000 pair phone cable that was cut in our town about 15 years ago. The pairs were not color coded or identified. The phone company had to ring them out from both ends. It tool them about a week working around the clock to repair the cable.

I have trouble distinguishing between green/blue with a 40 cal. suit/helmet with the tinted faceshield on. Fortunately we used green/yellow tracer for grounds.
