Exothermic simply means a process that produces heat. Includes arc welding, oxy-acetylene etc. The Cad-weld process for example used in grounding systems produces heat by chemical means.

Exothermic: characterized by or formed with evolution of heat.

Welding: to unite (metallic parts) by heating and allowing the metals to flow together or by hammering or compressing with or without previous heating.

thanks for the help guys, i asked j and couldnt find the answer .i thought that it might mean without heat ...ex o therm? but i was way off base so i appreciate the help . keith
