Gents:
We are changing out a meter case (what we call a meter case). We have a meter in the enclosure and a 200 amp disconnect. We want to remove the disconnect and install a panel.
Problem is we only have 29 inches between bottom of meter and bottom of enclosere.
I called supply house and was told smallest panel can (200amp main breaker sg D) was 29.86 inches. I need a smaller (in length) panel w/200 amp main breaker. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Check out Cutler-Hammer. If your talking single phase then a BR1224N200R or a BR816N200RF might work. This is resi grade stuff, I think they are only 25" tall. The next size can up is 29 1/8" tall. Three phase? ....I'm not aware of one that size.

Good luck.

Good idea but you lose 1/2 your breaker spaces because you can only mount breakers in the bottom 1/2 of the panel. My dad has a rental property with about 3 panels mounted sideways in a stairwell. He kept hinting for me to change them so i moved out of state.

There is no room sideways. For info, it is a single phase panel we need. The guts of a panel would not fit into this old style disconnect we have, not an option there.I think our only option is to cut the bottom out of the encolsure that the meter and disconnect are in. I thought with the vast amount of experience out there that someone would have had to have a 200 amp MB panel that took up less than 29 inches.Another thought is being that I have 29 inches exactly,I could punch out the top of the panel and butt it tight to the meter (no nipple) and just insulate the openings like we did years ago with lead. Couple of 1/4 20's between meter and panel and it might fit.

And you would most likely loose the panel rating going that, once you change the manufactures design you loose the ratings.

How about using an all in one outdoor panel?
