This seemed the most general area to post. I install Wiring Closets.
I need an AC breaker locater toner that will work on de-energized circuits as well as live circuits. I frequently have to tag breakers for server environments before they are turned up.
I hear Ideal will have one this year, but customer service doesn't know when. Know of one?

Greenlee atr least used to make one, if I knew where it was, i'd give you the model number. And the greenlee website is a pain. It's a 2 part small yellow deal, one part plugs into a outlet or you can connect it to a circuit with supplied alligator clips and then there is a little reciever gizmo that you can follow the circuit along a wall if the drywall isn't to deep, or you can take it to the panel and hold it to the end of each breaker and see when the signal gets stronger.
The down fall of it is the signal may bleed through to other circuits, so you have to go through and flip off the breakers to make sure you have the right circuit. You can also energize it with a 9 volt battery.
It is useful but it was $300 when i bought it 8-9 years ago.

I really like the Amprobe AT-4005. The list price is high, but I got mine for about $525.
