I am designing a new electrical system for my rural property, which will soon have six buildings: Power Shed, Machine Shop, Carpentry Shop, Main House, House Addition, Pump house/barn. The Power Shed is right next to the pole and transformer, so I'd like to bring 400 Amp single phase service to a meter base on the outside of the Power Shed. From there, I'd like to bring power to a sub-panel inside each of the 6 buildings. My thinking is to locate a 200 amp disconnect for each building beside the meter on the Power Shed. Then, for each building, run the necessary 4 wire cable through underground conduit from the disconnect for that building to the subpanel for that building. Does that make sense? If so, what kind of meter base do I need, and how do I connect the load side of the meter base to the six disconnects? I see that some disconnect boxes have "feedthrough lugs:" It sounds like feedthrough lugs might allow me to connect all of the disconnects to the load side of the meter by cascading from one disconnect to the next? I also see that meter bases with two disconnects and feedthroughs are available (Siemens Model #MC0816B1400SC for example), so I would be looking at the combo meter base with 4 separate disconnect boxes cascaded through their feedthroughs. Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated!
