Ran across a hot tub requiring a 240V 50A feeder. The problem is there are no provisions to terminate a raceway in the control panel. All it has is a clamp that says turn one way for #6 wire and turn the other way for #8. I called the factory and we had one heck of a round on the phone. I spoke with two people and neither saw a problem. They told me to just stop the conduit under the tub and run the "cable" or open THHN to the controller and secure with the clamp, that is the way it is done everywhere and they have never had a problem and their method comlies with "national codes" but they did not know about Tennessee. I don't know what Tn has to do with it. We go by the NEC too! I tried to explain my point but it caused more disagreement. They are going to have an engineer call me. Now for the scenerio.... Outdoor hot tub at a single family dwelling appox 40' from the house. I ran 6-3 w/gr WITHIN the dwelling to the disconnect on the rear of the house. From there I ran (3) #6 THWN and (1) #10 THWN to the tub in 1" sch 40 to be changed over at the tub with NM sealtite (approx 4' long). Unless I am missing something, NM cable can not be run to this tub outdoors and must have an insulated equip grd conductor if a light is installed in the tub. In addition to 680.42, the tub must comply with parts I and II of Art 680 as well. They think it is also OK to run open THHN within the tub because it is a UL listed assembly. I said this is BULL! From what I read, you could run NM cable to a tub INSIDE (indoors) a dwelling but only if no light is installed in the tub because of the need of an insulated EGC. I have pictures but don't know how to get them in here. Hey Don, can I e-mail the pictures to you so you can post them. I need to clear my own mind of this issue.
