Need help locating code section

I came across a situation where a 2500 amp buss was being used as a feeder to supply two individual VFD?s. The installation and all conductors sizing was code compliant except for possibly the equipment ground connection. From the point of the tap, one ground conductor sized for 2500 amp main was run from that point to the first VFD, terminated on a mechanical connector and extended to the second VFD. Other than electrically continuous and mechanically strong I cannot find in NEC where this would be prohibited. I personally feel there should be two equipment ground conductors sized for the tap conductors run with each set of tap conductors to each individual VFD. Any help in locating the code section that would prove this right or wrong would be helpful.

How are the tap conductors run to the 2 VFDs?

Are they in separate raceways?

If they are run in separate raceways then 300.3(B) would require the equipment grounding conductor to be run in the same raceway with the rest of the circuit conductors.

Both taps are made in a common junction box and travel threw a common trough, that drop off at the first then end at the second VFD. And thank you the welcome.
