I was wondering if anyone could suggest a lighting design software program. I am really just looking for something that is geared toward residential. If it had commercial then that would be just an added bonus. I am also looking for the program to do 3d imaging as well. I have looked around, but I am finding it hard to choose. I am looking to spend about $4,000 if the product is really nice. Any help would be appreciated.

Kindest Regards

AutoCAD 2008 does photometrics and I have a copy, and I am proficient with CAD but I have not used this feature yet. On the upside I believe you can download a working copy for 30-days to see if you like it.

Visual is the software that I use for a majority of my design projects. There are limits to its abilities but have managed to make some fairly complex 3D models. Can't beat the price at $100. Can also talk to a local rep and get it for free.

AGI32 is what I use for daylighting. It's capable of good renderings too. I don't have as much time on this software so I'm not very proficient with it. Well within your budget at $1295.

Whatever software you get, it would be good to also get training provided with it. Unless you enjoy spending hours and hours on self teaching.

you can also try the lighting softwares by chalmlite "chalmit lighting" and by cooper "luxicon"... I used this in lighting software in design of oil & gas industry, but i think it is also applicable for residential design.
