I guess I need some help with the interpretation of 645.5(e) which states:

645.5(e) Securing in place. Power cables; communications cables; connecting, plugs, and receptacles that are listed as part of, or for information technology equipment shall not be required to be secured in place.

I work in a farley old data center and in the past before my time all the circuits were ran with MC cable and terminated in 4 square boxes. We recently went through a major upgrade and now we actually have power distribution units (PDU's) In my interpretation of 645.5(e) I am to start running my circuits off my PDU's using a UL listed PDU cable like the ones at this web sight http://www.pducables.com Now according to UL standard 478, these PDU cables are manufactured with UL listed components and certified as a complete UL assembly and are very expensive (did I say they were expensive?) I can purchase all the UL listed equipment needed to make my own cables, but my setup will not be UL listed as an assembly??......Will it?......... Am I getting to caught-up in the code?

Thanks for your help,
Kevin

Re: Need help with 645.5

Only if the area complies with NEC Article 645.2 then you can use the leniencies provided by 645.5.
If the cables are listed Standard for Electronic Data Processing Equipment, UL 478, then they can be installed unsecured (as one of the leniencies permitted by Article 645). If you assemble the parts yourself, then they must be secured per the applicable raceway article.
