So, my old ceiling fan was connected to 3 wires inside the rooms ceiling mount and I believe the motor and light wires were transfered to their corrosponding wall switches(1 motor speed dial and 1 light switch). I recently got a modern ceiling fan with what looks like the same 3 wires the old one had, but I wanted to replace the old switches to a dimmer light switch for the light and a new motor speed dial. When I took out the old wall switches with my brother, we uncovered several other wires pushed back into the switch housing...while I was out of the room my brother pull them out and now I do not know how to reconnect everything as it was. We tried a few different configurations but a common theme was that either the motor dial had control over the motor and lights or vise versa...the light dimmer switch controlled both the lights and motor.
I have here several photos of my attempt to label the wires the best I could, after taking the time to using a metering tool to see which wires were in circuit with each other and which wires were the main lines providing the power. I essentially want to be able to use these new switches to replace what they were with the old fan, one to turn on just the light and one to turn on and adjust the fan speed. Con/com# is my short form for the wires that are connected via metering, just match them by number...I labeled the wires with "line" that are actively distributing the power from the breaker. The white wire from the ceiling fan housing on the ceiling appears to be a neautral from what I can understand and doesn't appear to be connected to any other wire nor a line, it's the unlabled one. The top wall switch housing is where the old motor dial was and underneath that was the light switch.
