Can a MYERS Hub be installed in a rigid conduit in class 1 division 1 location. does the NEC code book mention it, ( can any body tell me the clause number)

Re: Need Help

501.4(A)(3) "All boxes, fittings and joints shall be approved for Class 1 Division 1." If you can find a UL listed Class 1 Div 1 Meyers hub then I say yes.....but I've never seen one.

Re: Need Help

The question that you ask, "can a Myers Hub be installed in a 1-1-D area".
I worked in a chemical industry for a long time, and we always had our project work inspected by the AHJ. We were allowed to use a Myers-Hub in a 1-2-D classification, and that depends on where you want to install a Myers-Hub.
You should send a email to the crouse-hinds company and ask them the question. In fact, when I finish this reply, I will email crouse-hinds and ask them this question.
I had just receive the Cooper Crouse-Hinds Code Digest for a Code class that I am teaching. I did not see a Myers-Hub in any of their diagrams.

Re: Need Help

I know little of classified location work so I have a question.

Is there an enclosure suitable for class 1 division 1 that could have a Meyers hub installed?

I thought a class 1 division 1 enclosure would be cast with threaded hubs already installed.

I hang around classified areas a lot. (About the same effect as hanging out by dumpsters for a smoke ;) ) I'd go with mr. magoo. I've never seen one either - which doesn't mean they don't exist.

As you said, all of the enclosures I've seen either have external cast threaded hubs, or the enclosure is thick enough material to bore and tap.

Re: Need Help

This particular enclosure is an purged enclosure used for analyzer (X purge -NFPA 496 class1- D1 to unclassified) now the hub used here to maintain the IP rating of the enclosure and at the same time to use the seal fitting and run conduit.

Is there any other technic which can be employed in this technicque

Re: Need Help

I went through this same quandry a few months ago. The thread should still exist from sometime this past December. No - a myers hub is not listed for class 1 div 1. OZ Gedney lists a similar fitting for class 1 div 1 bottom conduit entry only. The apparent reason for the bottom entry only is because you must fill the fitting with chico compound just like a sealoff. The Gedney part number prefix is EYH. One of the forum members here turned me on to it. :D

Re: Need Help

I mentioned before that I was going to contact the Crouse-Hinds Company and see if a Myers-Hub can be used in a 1-1 area.
I receive the answer from Crouse-Hinds, and the answer is NO, you cannot use a Myers-Hub in a Class 1, Division 1 area, but it can be used in a Class 1, Division 2 area.
