i am installing a buzzer on a metal detector (115vac .16 amps)i have to hook the detector to the power box wich is 20 feet away.
here is my question; what type of wire and conduit can i use?
i went to the electrical store they have a three wire inside a steel flexible tube (conduit) can i use that or do i have to run steel tubing (conduit) and three single wires inside of it.
i iam planning on using # 16 awg stranded, ( low amps)

any help will be appreciated.

What type of occupancy? Is it a hazardous location?

You probably can't use 16 guage wire for this installation.

I used to do some monkeying around when I worked production. Two years after leaving it to become an electrician, I heard about my ingenuity shocking people. It might behoove you to seek experienced help for this job. Just some well-meaning advice.

An installation such is this is not maintenance and repair but a new installation. As such it should be done by a licensed eletctrician who will know what type of wiring to use and that, in general, 16 Gauge wiring cannot be used for building wiring.

I am in general agreement that competent people should be employed for any work, not just electrical work.

Having said that, does anyone actually make BX (or whatever) that is 16 gauge?

I bought some 16-gauge 10-conductor MC to use for alarm wiring, but that has been years ago. I don't know if it is still available.

Is the metal detector mounted on a conveyor for food inspection? you should follow the instructions that came with the metal detector for wiring it up, best have an electrician wire it up, some metal detectors are tricky, any ground loop will set it off and ring nonstop.

I have deleted two posts that, IMO, crossed the line between "giving helpful suggestions" (i.e., hire an electrician) and "belittling another's chosen profession."

I am also closing this thread.
