What is the reason you can use smaller wire for higher voltage? Example 480/277 to 208/120

Generally speaking, higher voltage means less (lower) current.

For the same KVA the load current will be lower when supplied by a higher voltage as noted.

75 kva 90 amps at 480 VAC and 208 amps at 208 VAC
