We have a class 1 div 2 pilot plant in our facility and we need a local P.E. to come in and discuss a safety/arc flash/short circuit/general safety assessment for us. Closest one we can find so far is in Virginia, so anyone who knows of someone in the northern nj area please let me know.

All NETA companies have PE's that specilize in power system studies, including arc flash.

AET is a very good company and I know the owners well, that would be my first call but the other guys on this list should be able to assist as well.

Be careful, just being a PE does not mean they know what they are doing with arc flash studies. They are plenty of yahoos out there trying to make a buck on arc flash studies with little real knowledge on the subject, always ask for references and a sample study. You are required to update the analysis whenever changes are made to the system, not to exceed 5 years for a review. They should be using real engineering software like SKM or easypower, not some free on line calculator (They don't really work and will give you incorrect results).

Great info thanks!

Great info thanks!

Appreciate the quick reply we will probably be using AET and you are so correct about the P.E. thing talked to several of them and not a one of them had any substantial proof of arc flash study experience although they all claimed they were ready and able to do one. 70E is turning out to be a huge quagmire. I can't believe how much research it has taken, and how many people with decades of experience are confused and have different views on every aspect of 70E. At least they have new PPE in the pipeline that doesn't make you look like you're a beekeeper!

People are taking on projects these days they have no business doing, just to stay afloat. There are plenty of real arc flash experts out there btu a lot more that think they are, always chech credentials. There really are nto different views, most real expeerts agree on the major issues and methods, they just disagree on the small stuff like footnotes somtimes.

You can find some great info and many of the best arc flash minds around here:
