Hi Everyone

I just came out of the Electrical Admin test for the first time and I have to admit my *ss was whupped when it came to the 3rd and final section of the test.

Can anyone suggest to me a quick study guide I can get my hands on. All my calulations were with in 10 amps of the multiple choice answers given, but that is like horse shoes and not what this exam is looking for

Hey Jomama,

The California certification test uses references from the " American Electricians Handbook"(McGraw-Hill Publishing, Inc). It is a great book.

Excuse Me

I need to be more exacting in my question

This is for the Washington State Electrical Administrators exam

I have already passed every thing we have here in Cali. I got whooped on the Wash exam. First time I ever failed a trade exam.

So if some one could please direct me towards a good study guide I would be thankful. I am here at home trying to prepare for a re-exam next week and my wife is starting to look at me funny

Re: Need some help with Wa St test

I took and passed that exam, but that was over two years ago. Remind me what the 3rd section covers.

Re: Need some help with Wa St test

Thanks Charlie

section 3 was the 7 load calculations.

5 questions for multifamily dwellings (10 & 20 unit Apts 1 duplex) using optional and standard calculations.

1 multi tenet commercial building

1 industrial service

I suppose I was taking the test too lightly. Needless to say I was not happy

It?s just a matter of practice. There are sample problems in the NEC Annex. You might also take a look at some of Mike Holt?s books on the home page of this web site. I took a class from CITC, a local business that has a number of training sessions you can take. But you won?t have time for that, if you are taking the test next week. You might go through the Exams section of the forum, to see if there are any sample problems that members have posted and discussed, and that are related to your specific needs.

Re: Need some help with Wa St test

I know this is a late reply, but I have a similar situation, having also failed the Washington exam and I am also hung up on the duplex question, but the standard method, how is the range handled, is it calculated as one unit with the demand factor applied and then multiplied by 2 units for the total demand? or is it considered two units with the associated demand factor applied from the tables? Also appliances, 3 per unit but to figure the service load is it 3 per unit multiplied by 2 units and then 75% of that for more than three appliances?

Any resources to get some help on these extremely agonizing questions from Washington? I have the Mike Holt calculations book, but it does not address this specific case.

In your case, try these approaches. Consider the conductors in question. If one set of conductors serves the duplex, then both ranges are on that circuit. In Table 220.19 go to 2 in the # of Appliances column, and then choose from column A, B, or C. Do not use 1 appliance values x 2. Similarly with your second question, if all 6 qualifying appliances are fed from one set of service conductors their total load may be reduced by the 75% factor in 220.17. It doesn't matter that there are 3 in each apartment, until you calculate the load for each individual apartment, and then find that you don't have 4 appliances to count for 220.17.
Good luck on your search.
