If Nema 4 or 4x enclosure containing passive/non sparking components(i.e. terminals) is suitable for use in a Class 1 Zone 2 Hazardous Area, can a PLC powered by 24VDC and switching 24VDC loads be installed in a Nema 4 enclosure and be suitable for Zone 2?

To go one step further can a PLC powered by 110 VAC and switching 110 VAC loads be installed in a Nema 4 enclosure and be suitable for Zone 2?

It can if it's listed for use in Class 1, Zone 2. Which my chart says is directly equivalent to Div 2. for instance, A-B micrologix is listed for Div 2. I don't think the relay versions are, just the solid state outputs. I know that there are many others and also good choices in 24VDC power supplies that meet that listing--just not enough time to look them up ;) You would also have to be careful if you use any fuses in your application--only limited types are allowed in Div 2.

I'd have my doubts about a 120V powered one.

We use the AB 1763-L16BWA (120V pwr with six relay outputs), it is cULus listed for Class I Div 2 Grp ABCD, T3C. Relay outputs are hermetically sealed.
Great choice for low cost Div 2 controller with LCD and Modbus master/slave RS-485 capability.
