Nema 4/Nema 1

If you have to put panels outside and you don't want to buy Nema 4 gear does the structure to house the panel and /or panels so it can be Nema 1 have to be specifically built or can it be anything just as long as it's weatherproof and the equipement is accesible and covered?

Most stuff outside is rated NEMA3R. It's generally more cost effective, and it works better most of the time anyway.

I don't see why you could not put NEMA1 rated stuff inside a NEMA4 (or 3R) rated enclsoure for use outdoors, unless there is a limitation on the equipment itself. Like it says it cannot eb installed in an environment with > 95% RH.
