NEMA 6-15 plug on 20 amp circuit with 16 amp continuous draw for 10 hours

I'm submitting this a second time because I lost contact with an earlier post with the same question.
I'm installing a Grizzl-e EV charger that has a continuous draw of 16 amps. The circuit I had planned to use is a 20 amp circuit in my shop that has 6-15 receptacles to match my machines. I had planned to use a 12 awg welder's extension cord with a NEMA 6-50 plug on the female factory end and to change the male plug to a 6-15. I now fear that the 6-15 plug will overheat. Is that true, as I suspect it is? If so, can I change the 6-15 wall receptacle to a 6-50? I realize this arrangement would be misleading. Any other ideas? Thanks, Bill
