Currently on 2017 NEC code cycle. It classifies a pool equipment room as a corrosive environment. For an enclosure, what NEMA ratings meet this standard? Since this code went into effect in January here(CA) I have inspectors all over the place on the matter. Some say only Nema 4X, others are okay with Nema 12 or Nema 4. Article 680 clearly specify which conduit is acceptable but only says all other wiring methods must be suitable for the environment.

The X in 4X means corrosion resistant. Type 12 and 4 (and 3R for that matter) only require a "salt spray" test of a few hours without significant damage, fairly easy to pass with pretty much any modern painting system now.

I've seen people advertise "NEMA 3X", but that's not a real thing. NEMA standards were self-reporting, so were easy to "claim" unless someone challenged you. So a decade or more ago, UL adopted the NEMA standards as UL-50 standards for enclosures. 3X is not in there (it wasn't in the NEMA standard either for that matter). The only thing listed as corrosion resistant is 4X. Now, that does not need to ne Stainless Steel, plastic and fiberglass boxes can easily meet UL Type 4X requirements and for a pool room, I would go that route.
