Anybody know of an NESC code about a weather head mast clearance thru a roof where there is an exterior egress window that is on the next floor up that could be used as an exit in case of a fire? The roof is a 4/12 pitch that juts out from where the garage meets up with a 2 story house.(attached). Poco engineer says NESC does not allow this setup where a person could possibly go out thru that window onto the adjoining roof during a fire and possibly walk the 20 feet over to the mast and touch it.(like that would be a hazard)

I don't have a copy of the NESC with me (I am now in Pompano Beach) but this sounds bogus. I believe the power company engineer has misinterpreted the NESC.

The update. I found a copy (1987) at the main state public library. It is out of date by 20 years, the latest copy is 2007. By their definition "A roof, balcony or area is considered accessible to pedestrians if the means of acces is throuugh a doorway, ramp, stairway, or permanently mounted ladder. (Bottom rung less than 8'ft above the level of the floor or grade). In that version at least, I see nothing about a "window" there. Perhaps I am falling a victim to Charley Beck's rule.

That was the only thing I could find even close to what I am hearing. The engineer has been out of his office all day, so I have not been able to follow up with him yet on what source he is using for this story I am getting back from le head carpenture. This is gonna screw up the looks of that new house for sure.

Thanks Quogueelectric, I'll check that. HECO also has an installation manual, but there is nothing in that manual addressing this issue. They do however reserve the rights to where the service attachment goes, so I may be SOL. I have always hated random new rules tossed at me, it does not seem fair. At least if he is able to quote me a code of some sort it will be a bit better, but if this is just another "thats how I want it done" thing, I am gonna be
