Will the new second generation smoke/co detector communicate with the first generation.

Are these a good idea? I have a customer that has one older one. None of their three other smokes are even installed. They just took them down because of false alarms. I told them we can not use the existing nest unless we go all nests but that assumes the older one will communicate with new ones.
