What to do. In the design of a system the design engineer didn't tell the contractor not to pull the communications cable for a programmable controllers in the same conduit with power conductors.
The communication cable is a Belden 3106a cable that is rated for 300 Volts. The wiring that it is going to be run with will only be carrying 120 volts very low amperage.
I find nothing in the code that specifies these can't run together. My experence is that it is never a good idea to do it. Especially when it is a new system.

What do you think?

Re: Network Interface Cables

See section 800.133(A) if these are indeed communication circuits, or 725.55 if the cables are actually signaling circuits.

Re: Network Interface Cables

How would you classify a network interface cable between multiple panel with plc's AB 1500 and a main controller also with a AB 1500?

There data talking

Re: Network Interface Cables

I believe we are talking Article 725 here and ot communications. The cable you describe is listed as a communications cable (CM), however that is a permitted substitution for "CL" type methods.

Re: Network Interface Cables

I would not be too worried about such an installation. AB communication interfaces (other than RS232) are fairly robust and noise resistant.

It is always better to run them seperate, but it is not the worst thing you can do if they end up in the same pipe with some 120V control signals.
