I am installing an automatic transfer switch for a whole house backup generator. This requires the existing neutrals and grounds to be isolated in what will
now be a subpanel. I also have a detached garage with a 100 amp service out of this (main) subpanel. The lines for the garage subpanel are a 2/0 neutral and 2 phase lines.
This (main) subpanel will now have a 4/0 neutral from the ATS and a 2/0 neutral running to the detached garage subpanel.
I will need to attach the neutral from the ATS and install a secondary neutral lug to the existing neutral buss bar to accommodate both large neutral lines.
The attachment for this secondary neutral lug will be under the hot lines connected to the branch breakers in the box. Because this neutral lug will be very close to the
breaker terminals will this present any potential for arc?
Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
