Does anyone know what the last code cycle was that allowed the installation of new neutral grounding for ranges/dryers. I have a house built around 1980 and it has quite a few 3 wire (SEU cable) circuits and since I'm changing the location of the disconnect, the panel will now have neutral/grounds separated. I'm looking for a good way to determine if the bare wire is a neutral or an EGC without going to each piece of equipment and opening it up.

Thanks,

Mark

If the neutrals and grounds are separated in the new panel because this panel is no longer the main panel then you would not be allowed to use se cable for the dryer or range. The use of seu cable was allowed if the cable was fed from the main panel.

The fact is the bare wire is most a neutral but will be an egc also.
