I have a situation were someone has a disconnect at the house and has run two hots a neutral and ground to a junction box located at a pavillion from the junction box they ran both hots and neutral to a disconnect in one conduit

then in a seperate conduit they ran both hots but no neutral back to the junction box and then on to a small sub panel, the neutral was spliced in the J box

They ran the ground to the diconnect but in conduit without the neutral

Need a quick code reference

300.20 is what I am looking at bany others??

215.4 (B) Where installed in metal raceway or other metal enclosure, all conductors of all feeders using a common neutral conductor shall be inclosed within the same raceway or enclosure required in 300.20.

This is just a method of getting to 300.20.

here is the kicker ,the conduits are pvc and the enclosure is metal. They brought the neutral into this enclosure with one set of conductors but did not take it out with the other. The neutral is spliced in the J box it feeds into the box and on to the panel

I think it would be okay if all of the conductors are in the same conduit, mainly because of the metal enclosures.

Added: I have no problem with the neutral not running to the disco.

a violation of 300.3(B)
(B) Conductors of the Same Circuit. All conductors of the same circuit and, where used, the grounded conductor and all equipment grounding conductors and bonding conductors shall be contained within the same raceway, auxiliary gutter, cable tray, cablebus assembly, trench, cable, or cord, unless otherwise permitted in accordance with 300.3(B)(1) through (B)(4).

but with non-metalic conduits, I'm not sure I would be concerned.'

I have two seperate conduits and only one has the neutral ran with the conductors
Okay, I re-read and understand the OP.

The disco itself does not need the neutral, so it's irrelevant, but I still thing it would be better to run all four lines in the same conduit.

The way it is now, if there are any line-to-neutral loads, the neutral should be routed through the disconnect with the line conductors.
