hey there guys i am new member to this forum and i have a few questions i am getting a new 3 phase 408 /277 service put into my warehouse and i just wanted to check if what my contractor told me is all accurate due to the fact that me building is out in the country three is no electrical inspector out there thanks in advance

1. i am putting a 400 amp service in there fore aim needing to install a 400 amp 3 phase main breaker panel
what would be a good reliable one to go with without having to drop a large about of money ?i do not need a lot of slots in it i will really only have 3 ea. 15 hp motors pulling from the 3 phase

2. according to the load calculation sheet provided to me by the contractor a 200 amp single sub pannle would suffice .so what would be a good phase converter step down transformer to put in all that would be for would be for the lighting and receptacle power .
thanks a lot

  1. You probably mean 480/277V, there is no such thing as 408/277
  2. As to brand, they are all about the same price between brands and despite personal opinions, nobody in that business can afford to be in it and sell crap, the liability it too great. So it usually comes down to support. If you are going to use your contractor to do your maintenance after the initial install, let him pick the brand that he feels he gets the best local support from. That will be the only really important issue in 5 years anyway.
  3. Phase converter? I don't understand, or maybe you don't. A phase converter is used to get 3 phase power when the utility will only give you single phase. You have 3 phase already. If you mean that you need to also have a single phase system for lights and receptacles in the office, but not at 277V, then all you need is a transformer to go from 480 (2 legs) to 120/240 single phase. The size will depend on your projected load.
