Without any more information it sure sounds like a voltage mismatch.

Agree, unless the fixtures are in a high heat area or he is not aware of some kind of automation (motion sense switch, power management system, etc)

Welcome. Failed how, exactly? One by one, simultaneously? Are there other lights on the circuit? Do they work? What model/part # are your lights?

Could be a voltage mismatch, could be an open circuit, could be a lot of things. You're going to have to do some more troubleshooting before we can offer anything more than a shot in the dark, so to speak.

Multiple fixtures failing within a few hours sounds like a combination of low spec design and misapplication.
277v into 120v only ballast is usually instant failure. 347 into 277 could be a cause for failure after a few hours depending on design margin.

Please respond with:
The general type and specs of the new fixtures, such as the voltage rating, lamp technology type.
facility type and fixture voltage. -> Consumer grade LED type fixtures are often designed to minimize unit cost over anything else and they may not withstand dirty power. Dirty power is not necessarily a bad thing. It's often a design failure of not being appropriately tough for the intended use.

Controls/switch type. Timed/electronic switch only meant to work with incandescent/mag ballast can cause mutual destruction when used with electronic ballasts.

What brand were the fixtures? We recently installed 12 HE Williams 8ft 2 lamp T8 fixtures, one of which had a bad ballast from the start. While we were working on the second row, another went out so we replaced it too. Had a call back the next day saying 3 more fixtures were not working. So that was 5 of 12 and we decided to replace all the ballast figuring they were a bad batch. Not a problem since. I would definitely check voltage and all that first but it could be something like we ran into.

Problem there wasn't exactly HE Williams problem but rather whichever ballast manufacturer they used in that particular run of product.
