I have two jobs to do and they now are under the 2008 code. the question that i have is this. the spec call for a single rec for a 120 volt window air cond. and does the rec need to be afic?? also does it need to be tamper res?? I have already read the 440.65 section on afic and just want to know what others think. also understand ALL 120 volt rec need to be tamper res.Just a note, we do not have a local inspection but a state inspector could show up and this is residential job THANKS ALL

There is no exception for single receptacles for either the AFCI requirements or the tamper resistant receptacle requirements.

The 120 volt A/C receptacles, if there are in an area listed in 210.12, would need to be on an AFCI protected circuit.

What about 440.65??

The LCDI or AFCI protection required to be part of the A/C unit can't be used to satisfy the requirements of 210.12.

210.12 requires the entire branch circuit to be AFCI protected, not just the appliance at the end.
