A project I am working on is considering a new electric fire pump to be added to an existing service. A question came up in regards to the cost vs a new diesel pump. ANybody have any thoughts?
I figure for the new electric fire pump we would need to put a new tap ahead of the existing main switch outside of the enclosure for the main, also the utility would need to be contacted to make sure there service can handle the load and voltage drop. I also assume that the existing service equipment will need to upgraded due to the new load on the system from the fire pump.

Re: New fire pump to existing service

Several times, I have tried to get the sprinkler guy to get a diesel fire pump. Because of costs, it ended up electric. In our area, the AHJ says that the only acceptable way to connect is to connect directly to the utility and have a new meter. In different areas, we get somewhat different rulings.
