New Fishing tool beats fishtape in walls

Don't know if this thing will shove it's way past insulation like a fish tape. Would have to be a pretty strong magnet.

I use Greenlee Fish Stix more often than I use fish tape. They work pretty well in a variety of circumstances where the Magnepull wouldn't be so good. I generally only use the fish tape for pulling wire through conduit.

I saw one of these at a Trade Show recently. I think the Roller is the Magnet. It is very strong. It's not easy to pull the two apart.

I wrote to them for some info back in April but didn't get a response.

"Replaces the skill based method of wire fishing with a definable process that can be taught in one hour

Reduces cable fishing time by 70%

Eliminates wall damage due to misplaced holes

Eliminates the need for a stud finder

Reduces time in the attic

Pulls through insulation in seconds

Allows for installations in confined spaces

Pulls under carpet "

I wanna see it pull under carpet.

$120 for a magnet on string and a metal roller?

Kind of pricey for something so simple.

Not pricey if it saves you alot of time. That's for sure.

I wonder how well it works with wood lathe and plaster? That would be the real test. I could image it could snag alot. No?

Thats why I want to see one in action. If it works well I would pay $200.00 I have spent a lot of time swearing at walls. Though 90% of the fishing I do goes easy it is that 10% that can want to make you tear the wall down. my guess is with lathe and plaster it might not be so good.

If it could get past plaster/lath PLUS a bunch of paneling nails and a few layers of sheetrock I'd buy one.

No it is not, you can waste $120 in labor in no time at all.

My point was that you could round up something equivalent for much less.

A rare earth magnet, a chunk of steel and some poly pull string.:)

That was my thought, as I fish in plaster-and-lathe in about 25% of our remodels.

I would buy one from a supply house if i could play with it first. I would love if it worked as the video showed I do a lot of fishing.

Yeah - I agree with that. Let me play with it.

I've done something similar for years using a cow magnet and a small nut on a string or an old 25' steel tape measure that has had the end broken off and a cow magnet. Cow magnets are cheap, strong and readily available. I agree with Bob, it is a good idea but can be implimented for a whole lot less than $120.00.

An old-timer that I worked for years ago used that trick.

We mostly use Jack-Chain, or fish-sticks for walls.
A fish tape doesn't work as well in walls.

And I don't think the roller is all that new of a tool.

I have always believed the best method of fishing is whatever works for a particular situation. Some of the time it's a fish tape and at others fish sticks. There are the rare occasions when nothing works but creativity ( you rig something).

Glow rods are thinner than the Greenlee sticks.

Sometimes the Greenlees are too thick and don't bend as well.
But when fishing a Foam-Insulated wall, the extra thickness can be helpful.
