Would it be possible to start a new forum dedicated to: "Tips & Tricks for Working-Alone"?

I am a one-man operation and would like to hear how others do things when they are in the same situation as me.

Thanks

Jeff Ellis

Re: New Forum Request

It is certainly possible. The important question, however, is this: ?Is there a sufficient demand?? The Forum owner and the moderators have occasional discussions about the Topic Areas included in the Forum. We agreed some time ago, for example, that the ?AFCI? Topic Area was no longer needed. In the last few days, we discussed whether we should add a new Topic Area. The consensus was that that specific topic did not merit special treatment. We thought there were not enough questions and comments related to that topic to warrant separating the discussions into its own Topic Area.

So if this thread leads us to believe a new Topic Area is needed, it will be given serious consideration.

Re: New Forum Request

I don't know if it rises to the level a whole area devoted to working alone, but the subject is interesting. I did commercial/industrial service work for a number of years with an outfit that rarely supplied a partner or helper. I became quite expert at running conduit specifically so I could pull wire alone.

Re: New Forum Request

I don't think it needs it's own topic. Just start talking about switching Dinning Room receptacles and they'll start discussing everything anyway :D

Re: New Forum Request

Jeff, in the interest of spurring conversation that will be relevant to you, what issues have you been having? What's your primary type of work? What type of vehicle do you use? What's your mother's maiden name? Do you leave large amounts of cash laying around your house? :D

Re: New Forum Request

Yes your right ,working alone s---s, tips are helpful, but I think you best people are right here
to talk to. Every ones worked alone at some time .
theres more experience here than a 100 man crew.

Jeff,

I also am a one-man operation. I like the quality control, and lack of warranty service. I use temp help to pull wire. Sometimes I get other one-man operators to help me on projects, but if you depend on this you can get in trouble. I am at the point now that I'm going to have to hire someone, or reduce my customer base. Tuff decision.

Same here, for years I had to learn to get by on my own. I would also be interested in sharing my experiance.

Re: New Forum Request

Perhaps something a little more broad than "working alone".
I would think a section called "Nuts and Bolt" [wire Nuts and Lightning bolts?] would work. Topics could include tools, whether to cut conduit at 87?, techniques and, of course, working alone.
Incidently, I too like to work alone but sometimes need to grab someone to help with a certain pull [or more succinctly, push]. I've found that a 1 lb. pair of ViseGrips [12LC] tugging on jetline is enough help to extend the range of a push maybe 50' and/or one additional bend.

Re: New Forum Request

IMO, you can add a question or statement in the "how to" format where it fits into one of the forums and others will respond. I just don't see that many issues come up. Am I off base? :D

Re: New Forum Request

Charlie,
You are way off base. In fact, if I were a pitcher, I could pick you off like a Freestone Peach off a certain tree in Redbluff.
"I just don't see that many issues come up." The reason these issues don't come up is because there is no folder for them. Of, course, there are other forums for this type of thing.

Re: New Forum Request

Any question can be posted in any topic area. I?ve seen very odd things being posted where they could not possibly fit. But I would rather see that then have someone not ask a question for the sole reason that he or she is not sure which topic area would best fit the question. Let?s not be the donkey that died of starvation within sight of two mangers, because it just stood there unable to decide which manger to go to.

Charlie,
what happened to all of the topics in the AFCI Forum?
It appears that they have all been sent into cyberspace. Or were they moved to another forum?

Re: New Forum Request

I don't know what happened to the previous discussions from the AFCI Topic Area. I've posted a question for the other Moderators. Perhaps one of them knows the answer.

Re: New Forum Request

luke, charlie,

The AFCI posts were moved into the NEC topic area back in Nov.

Re: New Forum Request

My two cents worth. I do not use topic catagories, have no need for them, it would take me longer to click each catagorie to see if there is any thing interesting in each one.

I use the daily posting so I can see all catagories lined up by the order they were posted and answered. Only takes me a minute ot two to scan everything for the day.

I do realize if you do not use the forum every day, this would not work, but for those who do, it works well.

Re: New Forum Request

Thanx, Bill.

Dereck, I agree.

I was looking for the 10amp circut to get around the AFCI, thread.
I was looking for something unrelated and came across something that I don't remember anyone bringing up, that would put the 10a circut to rest.
