I don't know. 39 years ago on a job a coworker sent a punk rock and roll wannabe apprentice to find a 2 x 4 scrap piece of lumber.
At a furniture factory I worked at years ago, the foreman asked one of the guys to measure a partial roll of material to see if there was enough to use on a piece of furniture. The measuring sticks they used were two yards long, just like a yard stick but double the length. It had all the partial inch and inch marks like any yard stick would have.
