Just bought a new house with a well water system. Can’t seem to find where/if they bonded the copper piping system in the house. So I was going to bond it using 4 guage wire to the main panel. However, the ground wire for the main panel is exposed outside and it would be easier to run it to that. Can’t I just bond the bare copper water bond wire to the bare copper ground wire?

How have you determined that the GEC is a 4 AWG?
Here are the appropriate code sections:
250.8 bonding the two GECs
250.53 C bonding jumper
250.64 GEC installation

The water pipe bond can be a GEC or bonding conductor, depending on if its per 250.52 A 1 or 250.104.

This is pretty basic stuff....

im not sure that answer helps me at all

Hint: Using an underground water pipe as a grounding electrode and bonding a piping system are two different things. 250.52 and 250.104 are the references for each. It sounds like the latter is what you are looking to do. 250.104(A)(1) tells you where that bonding jumper can be connected to.
